So I finally made it to the offseason and man am I glad to have some free time. I have been focusing on a lot of school work that I needed to get caught up on, apparently travelling the country and riding motorcycle hasn't been as affective in keeping my GPA as high as I would like but I am doing the best I can. This free time has also given me some time to go through old photos and video footage from last season. I found a great video of Myself and Neil Hodgson talking about a lot of random things from injury to traction control. It is a pretty cool video and I have highlighted what I think is best below.
Right from the get go Neil and I start in on what hurts most on us and how we did it. Injuries range from shoulder separation to broken ribs and beyond. It is funny that these motorcycles rip our bodies apart but we keep going back. In retrospect it doesn’t seem very smart but I guarantee you I will crash again and will once more hop back on my bike.
Around minute 3 we get into motocross and my supermoto crash. If it has two wheels I will ride it, whether it is going fast or stunting, dirt or street, I love motorcycles. Somewhere in the mix we have even decided the best thing to do is put street tires on a motocross bike and race on asphalt and dirt in the same race. I am telling you I think motorcycle riders inherently are not the sharpest crayons in the box.
We step back in time around minute 6 to talk with Neil about his 125 days back in Europe. He is so old we have a conversation about when I was born and when he was racing. I didn’t realize that Neil was almost a MotoGP champion before I was even born, I never want to become that old! Neil does have some great stories and I would love to talk more with him about it in the future.
Minute 8 hits and we get well into his MotoGP days and then his transition into American Superbike. We talk extensively about traction control and how great it is. I didn’t even realize how different it all is, wheel sensors or ignition based?? This guy really knows his stuff, I guess that is what thirty years of racing gives you!
